Twelve tools, one principle: make every model visible and findable, and never put a file somewhere you can't get it back from.

01 — Getting files in

The import problem, solved once.

Most "library managers" assume your files are already tidy. 3D PrintVault assumes the opposite.

Sweep Downloads

Scans every folder you nominate — your Downloads directory, an old drive, a staging folder — and finds all 3D files and archives inside them.

Archives are opened and inspected. A zip containing one folder is flattened so you don't end up with bracket/bracket/files. A zip containing loose parts becomes a project folder named after the archive. The original zip is moved to an archive directory, never destroyed.

Filename normalization

Every name is converted to lowercase snake_case with no spaces, no brackets and no duplicated extensions. Cool Bracket (FINAL)(2).STL becomes cool_bracket_final_2.stl.

This isn't cosmetic — consistent names are what make search, sorting and scripting actually work across thousands of files.

Source link recovery

When your browser downloads a file, Windows quietly records the page it came from. 3D PrintVault reads that back and stores it with the model.

Months later, when you want the assembly instructions or the remix license, the link to the original listing is on the model's detail view — no hunting through browser history. Windows doesn't record this for every file, so it appears where the information survived.

Preview, then apply

Sweep never acts on its own. It produces a full plan — every file, its destination category, and how it was classified — and hands it to you as a checklist.

Untick anything you disagree with, change a destination, and press Apply. There is no watcher process and no scheduled job. It runs when you press the button and at no other time.

02 — Seeing your models

A library you can actually look at.

Windows Explorer gives every STL the same grey icon. That's the whole problem.

Real 3D thumbnails

STL, OBJ and 3MF files are loaded and rendered as actual geometry — not guessed at from a filename. The renders are cached, so the library is instant after the first pass.

  • 3MFs from Bambu Studio and OrcaSlicer reuse the plate preview the slicer already embedded — the exact image you saw when you sliced it.
  • SVGs are drawn directly at full fidelity, so a laser or vinyl library looks right too.
  • Everything else gets a typed badge — STEP, F3D, SHAPR, 3DM, SLDPRT, PLASTICITY — color-tinted per format so a mixed folder is still readable at a glance.
  • Rendering happens on your GPU, in your browser, on your machine. Nothing is sent anywhere to be processed.

Search & sort

Search across model names, project names and tags. Sort by most printed, name, recently added or largest — so "what did I print most this year" is one click.

Built-in 3D viewer

Click any STL, OBJ or 3MF to open it in a proper orbit-and-zoom viewer without launching your slicer. Check a part is the one you think it is in two seconds.

Four themes

Filament, Molten, Nebula and Workshop. Pick the one that suits your workshop lighting; it's remembered between sessions and applied before the window paints.

03 — Keeping it safe

The part that lets you actually use it.

A tool that moves thousands of files needs to earn trust before it earns use. These four guarantees are structural — they're properties of the file engine, not checkboxes in a settings screen.

Every operation is journaled

Before 3D PrintVault moves or renames anything, it writes what it's about to do to a journal, grouped into a batch. The Activity view lists every batch with a timestamp and a one-click Undo that restores every file in it to its original path.

A sweep that relocated 600 files is one button to reverse. So is the one from last Tuesday.

There is no delete

3D PrintVault has no delete operation anywhere in its file engine — not hidden behind a confirmation, not available to a plugin. It cannot be made to remove your data.

Junk, byte-identical duplicates and stray installers are moved to a quarantine folder, batched by date. Reviewing and emptying that folder is a decision only you can make, in Explorer, deliberately.

Sealed folders

Nominate any folder as sealed — your commercial designs, purchased models, client work. 3D PrintVault will index it, thumbnail it, search it and count prints from it, but the file engine physically refuses to write across that boundary in either direction.

An optional airlock subfolder is the single deliberate exception: models you drag out of the library land there, and only files already inside it may come back out.

Projects are atomic

A multi-part assembly — fourteen STLs, a README, a license and three plate variants — is treated as one indivisible unit. It moves as one, sorts as one and shows as one card.

There is no sort order, filter or drag gesture that can strand part of an assembly in a different category. This is the single failure that stops people reorganizing, and it's designed out.

04 — Tidying what's already broken

For the mess a previous tool made.

Repair & Regroup

Looks for files that clearly belong together but have been scattered — same project, different folders — and clusters them into suggested project folders.

Each suggestion is presented individually with the files it would gather. You approve or reject one at a time. Nothing regroups itself.

Duplicate finder

Compares models by content, not filename, so the same part downloaded twice under two different names is still caught.

Results are grouped with every copy's location and the total space you'd reclaim, so you can keep the one that's already filed correctly.

Custom categories

Start from a sensible default set — functional parts, printer upgrades, organizers, household, toys, miniatures, tools & jigs, enclosures, cosplay, decor, calibration — then add, rename or remove to match how you actually think.

Drag any model or project between categories in the sidebar to refile it.

05 — Running a printer

The bits either side of the library.

Open in your app

Right-click any model to send it to Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, Plasticity, Shapr3D, Fusion 360, FreeCAD, Rhino 8, Blender, Illustrator or Inkscape — filtered to the apps you actually have.

Print counters

Tap a model's counter every time you print it. Counts are keyed to the file's content hash, so they survive renames, moves and re-downloads.

Print queue

Line up what's printing next in the order you'll actually run it, and reorder by dragging. Straightforward, and right next to the library it draws from.

Filament inventory

Track spools by material, color and remaining weight. Answer "do I have enough grey PETG for this" without walking to the shelf.

Stats

Total models, prints logged, library size, what you print most and what you've never printed at all — the last one being the useful number.

Maintenance checklist

A daily routine list on the home screen — belt tension, nozzle wipe, bed clean — so the boring things that keep prints good actually get done.

Drag & drop

Drag models and whole projects between categories, into the queue, or out to a folder on your desk. Anything that can't be dropped tells you why instead of silently doing nothing.

Completely offline

The server binds to your loopback address only. No account, no sign-in, no telemetry, no update ping. Works identically with the network cable pulled.
